Where Hope Takes Root

Lily* arrived at Namayiana Children’s Home in 2014 with her younger sister, grieving the loss of their mother and uncertain of what lay ahead. Only nine years old, Lily faced fear and heartbreak with quiet courage. Surrounded by love and support, she began to flourish—showing a nurturing spirit as she cared for the younger children and a strong determination in school. Her outstanding Grade 8 exam results made her the pride of Namayiana and her village, earning her a place at a top high school hours from home. Lily graduated in 2022 and is now on track to complete her Electrical and Electronics Engineering program in 2026—a powerful testament to resilience, hope, and possibility.

In Lily’s words, “My classes are helping me gain knowledge, skills, and confidence so that I can be prepared for my future career. My goal is to become successful, to be able to support myself, and to help someone else achieve their dreams, just like Namayiana did for me when I thought my future was shattered. I want to be a role model for the other kids at Namayiana.

“Being at Namayiana is the best thing that ever happened to me, where I received guidance, love, and support. To all the people who donate to Namayiana, I want to say thank you from my heart. Your support has changed my life and that of all the kids at Namayiana. Because of you, I have opportunities that I never imagined before. Thank you for helping all the kids at Namayiana, including me, build a better future.“

Nicholas* arrived at Namayiana in 2013 at just three years old, from a life shaped by abandonment and survival. His older brother searched for food to keep the family alive, while illness had stolen his mother’s ability to care for her children. The odds were heavy—but they did not define Nicholas.

Despite these challenges, Nicholas’s potential quickly became clear. Bright, disciplined, and deeply motivated, he developed a remarkable work ethic—often waking at 4 a.m. to study in the quiet before dawn. His dedication earned him a place at a high-performing high school, where he is now in his third year and thriving.

Focused and determined, Nicholas is pursuing his dream of becoming an aeronautical engineer—and one day, a pilot.

Susan* was one of the first children welcomed when Namayiana opened it doors. She arrived malnourished and unwell, having lived with a grandmother too poor and often too sick to care for her, and a mother, living with mental disability.

From the beginning, it was clear that Susan had special learning and emotional needs. Rather than giving up, Namayiana sought the right support. In 2019, she began attending a Christian school designed for children with learning and developmental disabilities—helping those who “don’t fit the mold” build a future with dignity and purpose. There, Susan is learning at her own pace alongside two of her brothers, gaining life skills such as gardening, beading, and kitchen work. Her social skills are improving, her confidence is growing, and she is flourishing.

Now a teenager, Susan is a beautiful young woman. When she graduates, she will return to Namayiana as a valued staff member, with a salary and benefits—safe, supported, and valued in the community that refused to give up on her.
